Brett Marcus Cook is a nonbinary professional painter, illustrator, art model, and dancer from southwest Virginia. They graduated from East Tennessee State University in December 2011 with a BFA in Graphic Design. Their comics work includes the graphic novel Other Sleep, Cosmic Adventurer Slimepunk, Debris Field, and Lost Machines. Their paintings and other works have been displayed in the William King Museum of Art, Salt of the Earth, the Abingdon Arts Depot, HollerHouse, and other places.
Their work primarily revolves around the human figure: the ways our bodies contain and reflect our emotions and our experiences in the world, as well as the energy we create and put out into our environments simply by existing. Their comics tend to lean towards science fiction and/or horror while still being very much about physical experience.
They're a member of a small figure drawing group in the Tri-Cities area of southwest Virginia/northeast Tennessee called Defining Bodies and co-founder of the Pouncepunk art challenge alongside Richard Graves. They're also a member of the Neo-Appalachian Art Guild and a co-founder of Embodied Art Dance.
